Wowindu tied Shakib

The Sri Lankan star all-rounder has leveled with Shakib at the summit of the T20I all-rounder rankings, leading up to the T20 World Cup. Additionally, Wanidu holds the second position in the T20I bowling rankings. Following his impressive performance in the last LPL season, he was appointed as the Sri Lankan T20I captain by the new selection committee led by former Sri Lankan top batsman Upul Tharanga.

Wanidu typically batted in the lower order, with only a few instances of him batting in the middle order. One notable occasion was during the famous victory against Ireland in Abu Dhabi during the T20 World Cup 2021. Sri Lanka was facing significant trouble when he came to the crease, but he turned the match around with a match-winning knock of 71 runs.

In the previous edition of the LPL, Wanidu shifted to the middle order and amassed 279 runs in 10 matches, finding success in his new role. Since taking on the captaincy, he has opted to continue batting in the middle order, a decision that has proved fruitful. Chief Selector Upul Tharanga stated that Wanidu's batting position is yet to be finalized and will be determined based on the match situation.
